Since its establishment in 1968, the Western Desert Operating Petroleum Company (WEPCO) has overseen the comprehensive operation and management of El-Hamra Terminal. Designed as a centralized hub for crude oil storage and handling, the terminal serves all Western Desert-based oil production companies.
WEPCO’s core operations encompass:
- Onshore shipping to local refineries.
- Offshore export/import of crude oil and petroleum products via tankers.
- Managing & Operating WEPCO 12” pipeline.



WEPCO’s Activities
WEPCO delivers premium petroleum port management services at El-Hamra Terminal as Pipeline operations, crude oil/petroleum product receipt, handling & storage, Transshipment and offloading via land or marine pipelines in addition to comprehensive tanker support and port services. Moreover, in alignment with Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum strategy, WEPCO works on increasing production capabilities at Badr-1 site to solidify its role as a key driver of Western Desert development.

Our Mission
Expanding storage facilities by adding new capacity to strengthen leadership in the crude oil and petroleum products trade across the Mediterranean. This will be achieved through the integration of the latest technologies and by enhancing employee capacity building, all in support of the company’s vision.
Our Goals
- Increasing crude oil trading capacity from 2.8 MMBBLS to 5.3 MMBBLS
- Adding130K tons of petroleum product storage for New Alamein City
- Scale storage to 20 MMBBLS (crude oil) and 400K tons (petroleum products)

Our Future Vision
- Developing El-Hamra Terminal into a key hub that supports Egypt’s transformation into a regional center for the trade of petroleum and petroleum products. The terminal is also set to become one of the most strategic facilities within the future Petrochemicals Project to be implemented in New Alamein City.
- Transforming Badr-1 site into a central hub for the storage and shipment of crude oil for companies operating in the Western Desert. This will be achieved by leveraging the existing infrastructure and facilities at Badr-1, in line with the Ministry of Petroleum’s strategy.
- Contributing to the sustainable development of the company’s operational sites in alignment with Egypt’s Vision 2030. This includes supporting comprehensive development, preserving state institutions, safeguarding resources for future generations, and enhancing the Egyptian economy.
- Delivering high-quality services using the latest technologies, at optimal costs, and with maximum safety for companies operating in the region. Continuously improve service quality to ensure customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
